The terminal voltage of a 5K resistor is 40V. Find the terminal current and minimum wattage of the resistor.?
I am able to find the terminal current but I am having problems find the minimum wattage. So far I have found the miniumum wattage to be 320 watts but I just would like for some one who knows to check and be sure of this.
Ohm's law says that V = I * R
So the current I should be 40V/5Kohm = 8 mA
Power W = V * I
So the minimum wattage of the resistor should be around 0.32 W. You've almost got it, but you're off because you seem to have messed up the units a bit. Keep track of the order of magnitude and you should be set.
